Rail clothing range a runaway success

After several weeks of on-the-job testing May Gurney’s trialists say the range seems to be a runaway success.

Peter Jones SHE Manager at May Gurney said: “It’s important that PPE offers the best weather protection possible. We asked employees at three of our sites to use and abuse the Pulsarail jacket and trousers and the results were very positive. They told us it was comfortable, warm and flexible.

“The seven in one coat was very versatile because it could be worn in a variety of different ways to suit weather conditions.

“our employees are often out in all weather, 24-7 so the PPE needs to live up to those demands. The feedback we got from the trials was very positive … it certainly seems Pulsarail is living up to expectations,” he added.

The Pulsarail orange range is the result of months of design planning and trackside research by Parker Merchanting’s new Rail Division.

“We invited operatives to tell us what they wanted from their work wear. Working with manufacturing specialists we delivered, right down to individually designed jacket pockets needed for mobile phones, tools and other equipment,” said Parker’s Business Development Manager Sean Tarrant.

“The range looks great too, and gives wearers superb levels of protection and value for money,” he added.

One operative Rick Hill, who’s part of a May Gurney team involved in refurbishing the Bell Busk viaduct near Skipton in North Yorkshire, agreed: “The jackets and trousers seem very well made and built to last. To be honest it’s the best gear I’ve ever had.”

More than 1,000 quality checks were conducted by design, manufacturing and production teams to ensure the new range could stand up to the rigours of trackside working.

Kate Robson, a Trainee SHE Advisor for May Gurney, said it was essential to ensure that work wear conformed to the latest Network Rail Standards.

“Network Rail recently raised their PPE specifications and so we looked around for a suitable supplier of compliant PPE and discovered Parker Merchanting was offering the Pulsarail range.

"Our teams go out in all weathers and have to get the job done whatever the conditions so they need the best PPE we can provide; and I am pleased to say that we are getting extremely positive feedback about this new range"

Parker Merchanting is sole distributor in the UK for the new orange range.

“Having just launched our new Rail Division it was extremely important that the Pulsarail range was every bit as good in the field as it looked during the design stages. I’m reassured those workers at the sharp end, are delighted with the finished products, ” added Sean Tarrant.

The Pulsarail orange range is both innovative and designed to offer rail workers superb levels of protection, comfort and practicality, from head to toe.

Star of the collection is the Pulsarail 7-in-one storm coat. It offers the wearer seven easily adapted jacket styles to suit both weather and working conditions.

Parker Merchanting will also be supplying a full range of personal protection equipment, consumables and trackside equipment. E-mail parker.rail@hagemeyer.co.uk for your copy of Parker’s latest rail catalogue.
